Dr. Rose Bilotta has achieved four board certifications and is appointed as Adjunct Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
She is interested in preventive medicine, reducing patient risk factors, and promoting the wellbeing of patients and the community. At the University of Toronto, she completed a Bachelor of Science, a Masters of Health Science in Community Health and Epidemiology, and a Medical Degree, followed by a five-year residency in Public Health and Preventive Medicine (a Royal College of Physicians of Canada Specialty).

In the United States, she pursued functional medicine education with the Institute of Functional Medicine and in 2013 became part of the pioneering first graduating cohort in North America as an Institute of Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP). Her long-term goal is to apply her passion for nutrition and disease modification towards novel research, patient practice and policy while delivering personalized medicine to positively impact population health.

She worked as Senior Medical Consultant for over 8 years with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Public Health Division. She was part of the Medical Group assisting the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario for outbreak investigation and management, provincial on-call duties and policy assistance. She is currently in private practice.
In 2003, during SARS, she was the only graduate of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency program at the University of Toronto. She was hired as Senior Medical Consultant for over 8 years with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Public Health Division. She was part of the Medical Group assisting the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario for outbreak investigation and management, provincial on-call duties and policy assistance.

As Senior Medical Consultant for the Chronic Disease Department of the provincial government, Dr. Bilotta chaired the 2004 Chief Medical Officer of Health Report entitled Healthy Weights, Healthy Lives. Dr. Bilotta was a member of the Ontario Advisory Committee on Genetics as the Public Health Division Representative, working on the Newborn Screening project. This committee work contributed to the expansion of Newborn Screening to 27 rare genetic disorders in 2005, resulting in Ontario having the most comprehensive program in Canada.
During the 2005 provincial outbreak of salmonella associated to bean sprouts, Dr. Bilotta facilitated a real-time provincial study on Salmonella and Arthritis, with the University Health Network (UHN) and health units across Ontario, which resulted in two publications in 2008 linking gut polymorphisms of Toll-like 2 receptors to arthritis.

In September of 2009, Dr. Bilotta presented to Public Health Ontario’s new ideas in epidemiology on Pandemic H1N1 and Host Resistance – Exploring nutritional status and polymorphisms to explain differences in susceptibility. In March of 2010, she presented to the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Office of Biotechnology, Genomic Medicine and Population Health. Dr. Bilotta is currently in private practice using her broad education and training to help patients find causes to their illness using a functional medicine mode.
